The Beach

Lots of beachbars to choose from and behind that the ocean. On the beach you can find people cooking sweetcorn with mayonnaise, tropical juice bars and some kind of hot nut cart. They had a stage set up and some kind of shake-your-booty competition was going on. There were a lot of blokes on the stage apparently not actually doing anything other than staring at booty.

Some bunch of guys were walking down the beach attempting to sell their traditional blend of double bass, accordian and fiddle music and loads of touts trying to coax us Gringos into their bar with 3-4-1 offers on Margheritas. Bit early for that yet though. The activity on the beach is all concentrated along a strip of sand about a hundred yards long and then after that it is empty - bizarre.

We walked along the road by the hotel and found a market tucked in some side roads. At every stall you go past, the trader invites you in. They keep asking me what size bag I want (how do they know I want a bag?), but were all very nice when I say I am ok thankyou. I end up buying one sooner rather than later to avoid the question!

There was one guy selling stained glass window ornaments and he showed me how he cuts out and places the pieces. He says he has been doing it for 25 years and has a lot of clients. Well done that man. The recycled art on sale is pretty impressive. One guy in the market had made birds out of old iron with stones for counterbalance. He set his "chicken farm, chicken farm" into motion and they all bobbed up and down like the nodding dogs you can get. Another stall sells ornaments made from regular drinks bottles twisted into spirals and filled with coloured liquid. Groovy little place.
